Kim was looking forward to going to Dos Amigos for the famous margaritas, but this year’s infuriatingly unpredictable spring made it a bit too chilly for the full effect, so we stuck to ordering a couple of pitchers of sangria. Still something better suited to a hot day, but I suppose we were trying to force it to be spring, and a glass or five of that sangria is an excellent way to make the attempt.
The only times I’d been here before were somewhat hurried dinners before seeing a show at the Tarragon (pretty much the only other thing of interest in the Dupont–Davenport hole that sits above the Annex), so it was nice, being here for April’s birthday dinner, to sit and enjoy it more.
Now, of course, no time constraints could make me forgo Dos Amigos’ guacamole. It’s light and addictive and comes with a basket of toasty, sturdy chips (which we went through two baskets of).
Nathan and I both got a steak special. The respectably sized slice of meat came cooked nicely medium and smothered in a pepper sauce. It was a different kind of pepper than I’d had before, and I don’t quite remember the name, but it infused the sauce with a great flavour and was just hot enough without being overwhelming.
Unfortunately, after the entrées (Kim had a chicken enchilada and April had a vegetarian special) we were too full for dessert and just had some coffee (which was also nice) before, it being April’s birthday and all, heading to a pub.
