2425 Yonge St., 416.322.6184
My wife and I have walked past this place dozens of times without going in. We finally had a chance to try it when our first choice for Saturday dinner, Seven Numbers, was closed for renovations.
Amore is an unfussy place, evidenced by the fact that my glass of Italian Chardonnay ($6.85) was brought to the table in a scratched-up old tumbler, but that was fine with us. The specials were plentiful and the menu huge. We started with some garlic bread ($4), which was toasted just enough.
For our main courses, Brooke ordered Pollo Fantasia ($15.95), a chicken breast stuffed with spinach and asiago cheese, while I decided on the Penne Veneto, with a sauce of chicken, mushrooms, green onions and sun-dried tomatoes ($12.95). The portion sizes were just right, and both meals were delicious.
Dessert was tiramisu ($5.25) for Brooke and espresso ($1.99) for me, and we left feeling pleasantly full.
The only negatives would be that it can be quite crowded and noisy (it’s a trattoria, after all), so don’t go expecting a quiet romantic dinner. And our server was not the most attentive, though pleasant enough.
Our bill with tax and tip came to $65, not bad considering the trendy Yonge/Eglinton location. We found Amore listed in the excellent “Cheapeats Toronto” restaurant guide, and we’re definitely looking forward to going back again and again to work our way through their extensive menu.
