We stumbled upon this place by accident while visiting relatives out in Mississauga and although it’s beyond the city line, we definitely think this place is worth a little road trip.
I’m not sure another restaurant like this exists in the GTA. If there is one, I haven’t found it. The decor is modern and minimal and hip. The staff is extremely professional and the service is superb. The wine list is small but well chosen. The food is authentic and yet there are some selections not anywhere near the usual. Whoever put the menu together wanted to cover the basics without the cliche offerings of most Indian restaurants.
We sat at the bar, had a pint of Wellington (again, wow!), and watched as our New Delhi pizza ($11.50) was prepared and fired in the open wood-fire oven. I am now addicted to this incredibly odd combination of tandoori chicken, feta cheeze, caramelized onions and coriander. I think there’s something in the home-made sauce that keeps me ordering pizza in an Indian restaurant.
We love the coriander-coconut chicken tikka ($10.50) and the butter chicken ($11.50) is the best I’ve ever had. We had the lamb vindaloo once too and it was amazingly hot and tangy. The naans are fluffy and crispy and soft and buttery… Yumm…
The desserts are the best part. I usually don’t like Indian desserts as they’re too sweet. Not here. The Rice Pudding ($5) is awesome and so are the home-made ice creams and sorbets, all made with a North American’s taste pallette in mind.
We usually spend anywhere from $40 to $60 for two depending on our appetite and wine selection and consider that to be a bargain. This place is hip enough for College Street and we know what price we’d be paying there for a meal of similar quality. Go west you Indian food lovers, go west!
